Here are some things you can do now to develop your writing & prepare for a career in writing:

Establish good writing habits. Write every day!
Think about your reading habits. Who are your favorite writers? You can research your favorite writers' influences and read some books by those writers who have influenced those writers.
Get involved with a writing community. Does your school publish any literary journals? Are there any online communities that you can get involved with?
Get published!
Research colleges and universities that offer degrees that relate to reading and writing: Literature, Creative Writing, Journalism, etc.

We will spend part of this session discussing career paths in writing. Students will also get into groups to creatively explore how they would set up an entrepreneurial venture (magazine, book publishing company, etc.) that involves writing and editing. At the end of the session, students will share ideas regarding the entrepreneurial venture that they have been brainstorming in their groups.
